Now he isn't whining...or is he?

McCain *now* says he isn't whining about the media being biased against him. This post at HuffPo puts the lie to the myth anyway, as I'd mentioned earlier.

McCain is also pissed off that Obama is getting a lot of coverage for a trip McCain demanded he take in the first place. That's rich, really. He wanted Obama to screw up. Instead, McSame has, yet another error in geography from a guy who is starting to make it look like Bush knows where stuff is on a map. And Obama is being well-received, particularly by our allies and especially our troops. That has to hurt a guy like McCain, who - after all - is just an airedale who wrecked so many planes his own fellow pilots called him "Ace". And the GOP says it is *bad* that Obama has fans amongst our allies and fighting forces. Bad for them, maybe, but not for America.

Instead, Obama is doing fine and even has the Iraqi government agreeing with him. Here are some pics and video from the trip thus far.

Fared Zakaria insists we don't even *need* a war president. I'll take that one further. We don't need a president that inspires hatred of our nation in our allies or doesn't know that Iraq doesn't share a border with Pakistan. We already have a douchebag in charge, we don't need a guy that increasingly either seems to have the onset of Alzheimer's or just genuinely doesn't give a shit about our world.

Thanks to Ray for the observation.

We were - for some reason - discussing Food Network people and Ray popped us an email with this photo observation.

Oh really?

"The glory days of TV news are over, and the media landscape has been dramatically changed....I find myself in the last bastion of male dominance, and realizing what Hillary Clinton might have realized not long ago: that sexism in the American society is more common than racism, and certainly more acceptable or forgivable."

- Katie Couric, apparently blaming us for not watching her Fox-Lite reporting

McSame is working on a couple ads that apparently "prove" that the media is for Obama.

This I find very strange as McCain has always been shown to be more centrist and independent than he really is. He is, in short, a false media creation. So I find it comically pathetic for him to wonder where all the cameras have gone.

They are still there. Hell, I am VERY glad I did not renew my NPR membership this year. After interviewing shitheels like Glenn Beck, Grover Norquist and Richard Land as "mainstream" conservative voices; after being in the tank for Hillary Clinton; they are now mouthpieces for the McCain campaign. Don't believe me? This supposed bastion of liberal radio constantly airs critical pieces on Obama, but rarely a day goes by that a direct quote or soundbite from McCain or one of his lackeys is aired without any point-counterpoint or explanation that it is a damn lie when it is.

So yeah, keep harping McCain. You're getting a frigging daily blow job from "liberal radio" but everyone is against you.

Anyway, back to how Katie Couric is wrapped up in this. So, McCain did an interview with him recently and he completely dropped the ball on the history of the Surge that he loves so well. He attributed Sunni cooperation in the Anbar province with the results of us finally putting enough troops in the country. So, he blew it...again.

Did that actually air? No, CBS covered it up.

Katie, there's a reason the "golden age" of news reporting is gone, and if you look in the mirror, you are part of that reason. McCain, you cannot go ranting about unfavorable coverage when every anchor and reporter is seemingly ready to cover up your constant lack of knowledge and outright lies.

Fools.

Some things to look out for as baseball's second half resumes tomorrow.

Go Cubs!

Future First Dog?

| | Comments (0)

The Best Friends network emailed me today about asking Senator Obama to seriously consider using a rescue agency instead of a puppy mill if the future First Family is looking for a dog.

Granted, I find it silly that anyone running for president HAS to have a dog, but hopefully they can find a pet that the entire family will love.

We got our dog Mono-kun through Best Friends and he has, of course, been nothing but great. Solid folks and as good a cause as any if the future First Family is looking for a pet.

So, if you would, spread the word and sign the petition and hopefully this all works out for some lucky dog and the Obama family.

I was so busy yesterday I just figured I'd miss catching the All-Star game. And I did, only caught it from the 8th inning on.

Actually, I damn near saw a whole game anyway given it went 15 innings (recap here and box score).

Some highlights. The Cubs pitchers represented, as did the Rockie's Aaron Cook, turning in a couple of impressive innings on the mound.

Kosuke Fukudome enjoyed his moment as an All-Star. And Nate McLouth REALLY impressed in the field. As did Edinson Volquez who pitched well despite giving up a crucial home run in the 7th.

But the night, and the Goat of the NL title deservingly goes to the Marlin's Dan Uggla. He kicked balls, couldn't clutch hit, made THREE frigging errors. There can't be enough said about how monumentally bad he fielded - or, more accurately, DIDN'T field - his position.

But he says he has no regrets. Which is almost a nice of way of saying "oops" but far short of saying "Sorry for screwing up the home field advantage for our side folks".

Then again, let's not blame Uggla for it all. Apparently Ichiro gives an annual profanity-laced pep talk that fires up the AL.

Who the hell knows? I just know that if the Cubs do make it to the Fall Classic, they've got one more hurdle than they did yesterday.

I am trying to wrap up stuff and kick this laptop for a well-deserved reboot. I spent a bit of the night trolling the Lifehacker Food category and ran into stuff I forgot I'd read and some new stuff to pass along. Indulge me as I pass along linkage.

I have not one, but TWO articles on healthy eating for at or under a buck (link 1, link 2).

From the New York Times food section the 11 best foods you (or I) am not eating enough of. Also, how to cut back on the meat eating and checking into farmer's markets in your area. Heck, even we have a couple here in the desert. Plus, some tips on how to cook your veggies.

Food to avoid buying organically, healing foods, and healthy supermarket foods.

Is YOUR Starbucks closing? Find out here.

To wrap up, a couple sites dedicated to rating beers. I know, very important knowledge, no? Here are RateBeer and BeerSuggest.

Child's Play (at the table)

Slate covers the benefits of family dinners. Something to look forward to....

The BBC handles the touchy subject of children's birthday parties. Scary! Read it if just to help you figure out where all the landmines are.

Just for fun, some simple freezer treats.
