As a baseball fan, I am used to getting crap from both sides. You've got your testosterone football goons who think that bludgeoning people is entertainment or your soccer fans who should know better than to bitch about a skillful, low scoring, lengthy game. On the other side are those too "good" to watch sport other than figure skating, tennis or the Olympics (in which they play, um, baseball).
Anyway, I've been catching as much of the World Baseball Classic as possible so I'm apparently the oddball American, but it was nice to see someone cover the games and not be too condescending about it. Well, just watch:

Meanwhile, on my way back from lunch, I enjoyed a small bit of schadenfreude. NPR's Day to Day program covered the same cool story about the Dutch topping the Dominicans - twice - but it was such a smug piece of shit story that I'm not even going to link it. Okay, fine, here it is but it is very asinine and childish. Basically Mike Pesca should be flogged, and Madeleine Brand should too for just being herself. My pleasure in listening to these idiots vent is that their program is gone in but a few days. So, you know, sick my duck.
In short, I like my baseball and I'm glad the new season is coming soon. In the meantime I've got the WBC and spring training to occupy my time. And maybe, just maybe, the meatheads will shut up and kill their brains watching NASCAR and the brainiacs might learn a little humility. At the least, just shut up and let me watch my games. Thanks.
