Why I'm never moving back to Texas (probably part of a continuing series)

My buddy Pedro is in Dallas for some training and we chatted tonight about how some Texans freak him out. Basically he met one guy who hates that America has a black president and was harping about how Texas needs to secede.

I told Pedro that this is actually not an unusual response for Texans, being as they wanted to do that in 1982 when I moved down there.

That said, it got me to thinking about a couple of odious Texas stories I'd heard in recent days.

In East Texas, if you are of color, but particularly black, the cops will steal your cash and take your car for minor offenses. Of course, this is an incredibly racist part of the US. Hell, it's an incredibly racist part of the South for that matter. In recent years, people have literally been drug through the street because of the color of their skin. Jena is in this regional throwback to the 17th century.

Horrible people doing horrible things.

In what is supposedly more civilized Corpus Christi, it was recently found that the asshats running a mental institution had created a fight club where the patients would beat each other up.

Why we can't line people up like this and execute them is beyond me. I mean, hell, Texas has the death penalty and everything.
