Land deals in Africa and Asia: Cornering foreign fields | The Economist

I read this alarming story on how the Chinese and some Arab nations are buying up farm land in the poorest nations on Earth.

Aside from the obvious abuses of the land (I refer you to any farm bought out by an ag giant here in the US), you are looking at foreign government control of another sovereign nations resources. It kills innovation and crop diversity outright. Basically, if the US bought the Amazon to be clear-cut for wood paneling the world would be justifiably pissed off. This isn't much different than that.
