Making no cents: finance minister says producing penny cost more than its worth - Winnipeg Free Press

I know there are good, solid economic reasons for getting rid of the penny.

But I would miss it here. And I'm sure there are plenty of folks in the countries that have removed it that probably miss it too.

Besides, if we did everything for just economic reasons, we'd have millions of dead citizens kicked out of their homes when they were fired or laid off - for good, solid economic reasons.

Good business does not make good government. Hell, good business most likely shouldn't even be considered good. Profitable, perhaps, but good doesn't live on a balance sheet.

So, farewell Canuck penny. Whether that is for the good or not remains to be seen.
