BBC NEWS | Africa | SA pigeon ‘faster than broadband’

I’m spoiled. I know it. We basically have a T1 at home that only gets shared with a couple offices. So life is good.

However, traveling around the country for the past few years, I’ve seem how painfully slow internet access is in some places. And out in the Caribbean? Forget it.

So I found this story about a pigeon with a flash drive traveling faster than a “broadband” packet hilarious. And kind of sad too.

Information is the only way a lot of places are going to have to make a better life. And this planet is woefully unprepared to deliver.

Calling ’em out

Senator Rockefeller accused Texas’ Cornyn of doing the insurance industry’s bidding by referring to Cornyn’s support of a proposed amendment to allow health insurance folks to look at the pending bill and waiting 72 hours to vote on it so the execs can tell their paid politicians how to vote.

Granted, that’s not how Cornyn, other Rethugs, and Sellout Dems see it, but that’s how it exists in reality.

Senator Debbie Stabenow made her stand against Arizona’s Other Moron Senator John Kyl, who argued against including maternity care in the bill because – you know – he doesn’t need it.

KYL: I don’t need maternity care, and so requiring that to be in my insurance policy is something that I don’t need and will make the policy more expensive.

STABENOW: If I could just interject once with my colleague — I think your mom probably did.

More on this.

Democrats have dirty fiends paid by the health and insurance industries too. Kent Conrad of North Dakota has been arguing against a public health option because he believes that France doesn’t have one and they have GREAT health care.

France DOES have great health care, recently rated the best in the world. France also, however, DOES have a public plan that covers 3/4ths of their citizens – and has since the end of World War II.

Keep calling out the idiots when they are wrong. Keep calling out the idiots when they are working against the desires of the majority of Americans who desperately want reform.

Crazy Census Conspiracies: Vote For The Most Insane

Considering that conservatives are apparently into assassinating census workers now, this might be in poor taste, but here’s a list of the most insane conspiracy theories the GOP has about the Census Department.

Wired also covers the psycho right wing fringe and it’s fears about missiles targeted at your home and other crap.

Maybe they have a guilty conscience about something?

Evangelist goes (even more) Bananas

Apparently Kirk Cameron is a batshit crazy Talibangelical. Here his bizarre views on creationism and bananas are proven false in the harsh light of reality.

Salon covers the “alteration” of The Origin of the Species that somehow ties Hitler to evolutionary theory, despite the book being published 30 years prior to Adolf’s birth.

And you thought Alan Thicke was the strange douchebag on that show.

Bob Cesca: The Impeachment of President Obama

I love it when Bob points out Republican stupidity. Also, that they would waste no time in trying to impeach the president if they had a chance.

(T)hroughout the Bush years — no matter how accurate the left’s “fringe” attacks might’ve been — liberals were marginalized and laughed off by the establishment press, ignored by certain leaders in our own party and attacked as unpatriotic by the Republicans. Sean Hannity, Tom DeLay and Bill O’Reilly, who are all busily ripping the current president an array of new holes, actively accused the left of undermining the troops because we were criticizing the commander-in-chief during wartime. Ah yes. They abandoned that one faster than Newt Gingrich abandons sick wives, didn’t they?

Even more to the point is this nugget of counterfactual argument:

I don’t know when Nazis suddenly began to embrace biracial, liberal children of African immigrants, but if I missed this development then bravo Nazis! You’re doing better than South Carolina!
