Why Is Universal Health Care ‘Un-American’? | CommonDreams.org

I can’t believe I am standing today in a Christian church defending the proposition that we should lessen the suffering of those who cannot afford health care in an economic system that often treats the poor as prey for the rich. I cannot believe there are Christians around this nation who are shouting that message down and waving guns in the air because they don’t want to hear it. But I learned along time ago that churches are strange places; charity is fine, but speaking of justice is heresy in many churches. The late Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara said it well: “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Too often today in the United States, if you talk about helping the poor, they call you Christian, but if you actually try to do something to help the poor, they call you a socialist.

A pastor questions why true Christians would be against health care reform. And, more importantly, expresses disappointment with his angry co-religionists who oppose caring for their fellow man.

The Wing-Nut Code: What Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin Are Really Saying to Their Followers | Politics | AlterNet

This article does a great job of tying all the angry, hate-filled terrorists together under one anti-American umbrella.

Basically, half of these folks probably couldn’t agree on anything more than they loathe compromise and are livid that this nation elected a black man to be their leader.

That, and that the world is flat and the moon is made of green cheese.

Republican Heroes: Asshats and Assaults

From the same Rethug Representative hoping for a new Republican “Great White Hope”, some footage from her town hall meeting where she laughs at the plight of a single mom without insurance.

But, while mocking people you are supposed to represent is pretty vile, at least she didn’t go out and hit her.

In Florida, a random Rethug pulled his truck over at a rally and punched an elderly pro-reform supporter. Nice.

These asshats will even shout down a woman in a wheelchair in New Jersey and stop her from speaking.

Once again, there’s nothing compassionate about conservatives and nothing Christ-like in their Christianity. Disrespecting people who you supposedly speak for. Beating on the elderly. Treated folks in wheelchairs like second-class citizens.

Why do we listen to such vile people?

SPORTSbyBROOKS » Taking Torch From Ted Kennedy … Curt Schilling?

Even irreverent sports columnists are laughing it up at the prospect of Curt Schilling running for Ted Kennedy’s seat. I lost all respect for this guy when he went full out for Bush in 2004. In 2000, that was forgiveable to a degree given that we didn’t know how much of a spineless asshat he would be. But not in the next election.

In short:

Yes when I think of the Kennedy legacy, the photo above immediately comes to mind. In fact, make that puppy giant-size and slap it on a few billboards around the state, and Schilling could be the first person ever to get zero votes. Sorry to ruin this thing before it gets started, Curt.

Republican Heroes: Racists, Terrorists, and Traitors

“I hate that flag up there….I hate the United States government….They’re an evil, corrupt government. They need to go. Sovereignty is not good enough. Secession is what we need!”

“We hate the United States!”

– Larry Kilgore, Talibangelical “patriot” at a Texas secessionist rally

A roundup of recent miscreants that make up the GOP:
