Now, granted, I hated working on coin slots. They were loud, dirty, and full of sharp parts. But it *is* nice to see them still out on a few slot floors.

Got the new Wired at lunch today and have read most of this article that looks back on the Age of Hackers and how they and the new geeks that have followed have changed the world.
Robert Reich makes a no-nonsense and obvious point about entitlement funding, if you just spend a few minutes looking over the data. Immigrants have nurtured and strengthened our nation in the past and they’ll continue to do so, no matter what the color of their skin or language they came hear speaking.
What’s weird is how acceptable the argument is. I just got done reading Geraldo Rivera’s The Great Progression and he made basically the same argument in one of his chapters. Why was I reading that book? Well, I’ve promised myself to try to read some socio-political books of folks I don’t really agree with. Reading any O’Reilly or – gasp! – Coulter or Malkin seemed to be useless. I at least share some skin color with Rivera so it seemed a good start. And, frankly, when he’s not spouting anti-union, anti-progressive rhetoric he’s been brainwashed with, he’s the kind of Republican you can at least agree to disagree with, and even agree on some common sense ideas. Like the immigration issue.
Our President picked a Nobel Prize-winning certified genius in charge of the Department of Energy. If anyone in the Obama cabinet can help turn the tide on climate change and in running our society’s power sources in a smarter way, it’s Stephen Chu.

Look at that twit. He’s the editor of our local conservative rag, the Las Vegas Review-Journal. If you ever want a clue of how vile Republicans are, read an editorial here or just read the comments on any article. And I mean any. An article of the cuddliness of kittens would spawn at least a dozen “Obamao is a socialist n*gger” remarks. And no, I’m not really making that up.
So it is as no surprise that, for reasons made somewhat clear in the opinion piece, that Editor Mitchell thinks we should take away women’s right to vote. He swears this is satire, but you really do believe he thinks this way.
I get it now. All this Tea Bagger talk about “restoring the Constitution” really means that they only want white men with property to vote. No women, no minorities, no poor people.
Per Political Irony captioned:
“Ah, the irony of not wanting to pay taxes, while still receiving the benefits of government.”

Some good info on the Icelandic volcano situation.
Plus, some fantastic imagery from the Big Picture of Eyjafjallajokull.
For my money though, this is an amazing gallery too.

Bob comments on a damning observation piece of Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and only makes it better.
And to think, people who call themselves patriotic Americans CHOOSE to let this ilk represent and lead them.
