Because everyone has to be number one at something.

Click here for the big picture.
You name it, the right has opposed it: civil rights, school desegregation, women’s rights, labor organizing, the minimum wage, social security, LGBT rights, welfare, immigrant rights, public education, reproductive rights, Medicare, Medicaid. And through the years the right invoked hysterical rhetoric in opposition, predicting that implementing any such policies would result in the end-of-family-free-enterprise-God-America on the one hand, and the imposition of atheism-socialism-Nazism on the other.
This is about as close to truth as you’re going to get about the GOP.
There’s a reason that I watched the better part of the original trilogy and the Family Guy parody this weekend. After 30 years, Empire and it’s companion pieces still work their magic.
I was going to go in another vein with one of these stories but they keep cropping up.
So, here goes.
Conservatives bitch and moan about how the “liberals are brainwashing our children” and how education teaches kids to think and care for others and the environment. You know, stuff like where things are, not everyone brown needs bombed, science and condoms exist: use them, and so on. I’ve spent some time highlighting the lies passing as history in a Texas history book coming to a school near you.
But there are other problems with having conservatives involved in education.
In San Antonio, teachers apparently feel comfortable in bashing Mexicans to the faces of their Latino students. Said teacher was told to take a week off and is already back in class.
In Alabama, a teacher used to concept of assassinating President Obama as a means to teaching parallel lines and angles. You know, just in case some hillbilly teen might want to take a shot at our nation’s leader. Once again, the teacher wasn’t fired, and the Secret Service decided not to make an example of them. Again. Can we at least put ONE of these assassination lovers behind bars?
And, just for kicks, in Florida, two teachers are accused of dousing their atheist co-worker in holy water in the hopes of converting them.
Apparently that’s the compassionate thing to so in the Sunshine State.
Jerks.
It’s nice to know that historians – particularly those in Texas – are lining up against the Texas state “reforms” that teach stuff like slavery wasn’t so bad and Joe McCarthy was a nice guy or whatever lies they are selling.
Plus, another view supporting California’s move to reject any textbook that is printed that includes the Texas lies.
Seriously, people in general are pretty stupid. Willingfully lying to children because you are bigoted and hate others is just cruel. Our children are supposed to be *better* than us, not force fed bullshit that doesn’t reflect reality.
I’m posting this link concerning Rand Paul chickening out of being on “Meet the Press” for the following reason:
“Throughout its history, she said, only two guests have canceled: Louis Farrakhan and Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia.”
That’s good company for the Tea Bagging Libertarian.
That said, it’s probably good for his people to tell him to start shutting the hell up. In the past week, we have learned that Paul (probably both of them) are cool with people being racist as long as they don’t beat on people.
Also, disabled folks should just suck it up and not worry about businesses providing access to them.
There shouldn’t be a minimum wage in his view, though he’s too chicken to admit it.
Oh yeah, President Obama is apparently a racist tyrant for telling British Petroleum they’re responsible for dumping millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico (and beyond). Government should just shut up and let companies destroy nature willy nilly according to this guy and folks who agree with his philosophy.
In short, the more we allow Tea Party Treasonous Bigots to speak, the worse they sound.
Here’s a bit of reminder footage on how Paul thinks racism should be a protected right. Here’s a glimpse at one of his racist former spokesmen.
This is the kind of racism Rand Paul is for:

We were coming back from California when I heard something related to this and then saw the Maddow bit later. Check out the story and some recipes, plus watch this:
Not only do the anti-immigrant folks border on racism, they just plain lie to back up their beliefs.
Here’s one of those things that bother me about wingnuts. Yes, there are many, but the rank hypocrisy of these folks is incredibly grating.
Here a tongue-in-cheek list of the things Tea Bagging Terrorists can do to reduce socialism in their own lives.
Texas is for lunatics.
Here is more on the insane crazy lies they are planning to pack into Texas schoolbooks. California, thank God, is working to ban Texas-approved schoolbooks in the Golden State as they are “a threat to the apolitical nature of public school governance and academic content standards in California.” Amen.
In other Texas news Governor Traitor Rick is blowing through hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to fund his rental home since the governor’s mansion got hit by arson a couple years back.
So much for fiscal conservatism.
