Rafters Push For ‘Right To Float’ In Colorado : NPR

Stuff like this just pisses me off. Give the story a read/listen and see if you don’t get irate either.

In short, some a-hole from Texas buys up a bunch of land in Colorado adjoining a river.

Said river is used for rafting and recreation.

Said river and all rivers in Colorado are public entities. It is in the state constitution as such.

A-hole Texan claims the waterway abutting his property is his and that he can ban people from floating on it.

Case is – for some unknown reason – not thrown out on the grounds of stupidity and is pending.

Oh, in Texas, you can’t own the waterways, which apparently is why he came to Colorado. Apparently he thought, and he’s right, that money can break more laws in the Rockies than they can in Texas.

CBS Sunday Morning – Video Segments

It’s totally my fault, and actually not even that to a certain extent.

My Grandfather got me hooked on watching Sunday Morning on CBS back when Charles Kuralt hosted it. The stories were entertaining and light and you often learned stuff too.

So I’ve been watching it with Gabriel, who actually asks for it when he wakes up on Sundays. “Sun, Sun!” he screams until I put in on.

His favorite part, however, is at the end of the show when a moment of nature video is played, often involving some animals. CBS is really, really awful about hosting video from the show up but I just saw some of the last couple weeks of stuff we liked up and I figured I’d share. (Many have been moved/archived at YouTube over the years.)

Orwell and the Tea Party (plus Thomas Paine)

Tea Baggers don’t know much about history. You already know this.

They are convinced we are living in a theocracy. Ask a Tea Bagger and this is the Christian form of Iran…not that they’d say it like that.

Now they are proving they know nothing of literature, or political writing.

Without getting too much into it – the article does a good job of explaining itself – Tea Baggers are incredibly unaware that George Orwell was a socialist. Not like Barack Obama, savior of capitalism, is a socialist, but an actual one. Here are their increasingly incorrect stances concerning George Orwell.

But don’t stop there! They also – or at least Glenn Beckkk – has no clue about Thomas Paine. To the nitwits who listen to that fake-teared sociopath, they are unaware that Paine was anti-royalty and, more importantly, anti-religion. Well, at least, anti-established Church, which is a difference many can’t make. Plus he fought for things like a woman’s right to vote and other things that make Rethugs squeamish.

So how is he their hero? No clue.

Same reason Reagan made “Born in the U.S.A.” his anthem without caring about what the lyrics meant. Same reason Tea Baggers get offended when you associate them with a sex act – even though THEY came up with the label. Same reason the phrase “compassionate conservatism” usually means you’re about to get screwed out of money or freedom or possibly both at the same time.
