The Winds of Hell | Minnesota Public Radio News
I have probably linked this before, but since we’re struggling to get past zero today I was reminded of this story about how unexpectedly bad winter can get up here.
War hero’s tour: A soldier adjusts to fame – msnbc.com
This is how American heroes are made. We don’t yearn for blood and glory, but we never shy away from it when the chips are down.
Now someone give this guy a break and let him live his life. He’s earned it.
BBC – BBC Radio 4 Programmes – The Reith Lectures
The 2010 series of Reith Lectures are some of the brightest discussions I’ve ever heard. Give them and some of the others a listen.
BBC World Service – Documentaries – Extremes of Corruption
Here is a really, interesting discussion on corruption and the lenses we use when discussing it in different parts of the world. Give it a listen.
New GOP rep: Sick kids shouldn’t get health insurance
Your compassionate conservatives hard at work hoping to ensue children are uninsured.
American farmers move to Mexico | PRI’s The World
Due to many factors, one of them being the rampant racism of our countrymen against migrant farm workers, many American farmers can’t make ends meet here in the US. Here are some pics and stories of those who have moved their farms to Mexico to go where the labor is.
Want more? The World did another story on the subject the next day.
Maybe when we stop blaming the poor for the things they have to do to survive, we might actually get to the root of the many problems we have. Of all of them, I’ve heard of Flor de Cana and hope to try it soon.
Georgia GOPer Pushes Bill For Taxes To Be Paid In Gold And Silver | TPMDC
It’s called fiat currency. You know, the bills in your wallet right now. Ever since Nixon took us off the gold standard, you and I accept the value of the dollar because we believe the US government will honor the value of the paper.
Let me say it again. Our currency works because both you and I believe our government is both stable and legitimate enough to honor the value printed on our money.
You AND I. All of us. Americans and foreigners alike.
That is how it works.
Unless you are a Republican.
Some jackhole legislator in Georgia is pushing for that state’s business to ONLY function using gold and silver.
Like not believing the President is American, or not believing gays are citizens, or in celebrating the Confederacy and slavery, this is akin to treason. Look, vote how you want to, be racist in your own home if you want to. Believe Sarah Palin is something more than an illiterate who quit her job when it got difficult. I don’t care.
But some things are real. One of them is accepting your role in keeping our country solvent. You’d think these clowns, who keep harping on how capitalism has more weight than your rights, would understand that this is how the economy works. Instead they just want to make Glenn Beck rich, even to the point of tinkering with treason.

I forgot to link these recipes for some holiday foods for next year.
