And yes, I lived there a few years. In a fairly enlightened college town. And I still heard associate deans teaching foreign students how stupid foreigners were compared to Americans. And that’s actually a half-decent example of how folks behaved there.

Don’t start me on the ROTC marching with weapons through the (mostly international) family housing section after 9/11.

Not that I expect Lou Dobbs or those other racists to apologize, but here’s the news about the occasional case of leprosy down south. Folks are getting it from armadillos.

Little armored rodents.

NOT illegals or Mexicans or brown people in general.

Like I said, the bigots will refuse to hear the truth. They’ll deny ever tying Latinos to leprosy. Anything to avoid taking responsibility for their hatred.

I was planning on doing a little gardening this year. Probably nothing massive but this info and the blog associated with it are interesting reading.

Also cool is the open source ecology project, which plans to create blueprints for machines that can sustain civilization. Frankly, that’s just genius and if we weren’t such a market-driven pack of vultures, this would have been around a long time ago.
