The Wayback Machine, a time machine for the web
I have been using the Wayback since about its beginning, at least since 1998 or so. Given the fall of Flash, it has been critical in getting access to video I have lost over the years, though the major networks did a horrible job of keeping archives of their stuff, some of it is still available here.

I remembering reading about the violence in Burma back in the 80s in – get this – Soldier of Fortune magazine. They did a spread on the Karen militias who were probably about to get wiped out by the military who eventually took over the country a few years later.
Surprise, surprise. Some of them stayed alive, kept the faith, and are now leading the charge to take back Burma.

A Mexico City neighborhood keeps the iconic Volkswagen Beetle alive

You can’t get a new Beetle anymore, but Bugs still are part of the Mexican car culture. The last couple of times I have been down there it has just been weird to see Nissan Tsurus (or whatever they have now) be the taxis of choice.
