This Week: Visas and Comic-Cons

A lot of folks overseas are afraid to come here now.

Let’s say it more clearly: citizens of other nations are fearful of what will happen when/if they come to visit the United States of America.

If you are fine with that sentence, you are a really shitty person and horrible at being an American citizen.

This starts with folks wondering if they want to come to cosplay at a convention. But in coming years we have the Olympics and the World Cup. Folks see how ICE and the FBI and police treat our citizens and have every right to be afraid. They see white nationalists in power and emboldened and pardoned by those in power.

Why would anyone come here to visit?

It’s Time to Start a Real Nationwide Resistance Movement

A few months have passed since this post, and other than organizing protests, I don’t see much action.

Where is a general strike? A concerted effort to list companies siding with Trump? Finding out who is building the camps, supporting ICE efforts? They are staying in hotels, eating at restaurants, driving rental vehicles. Name and shame and cut the spigot of cash heading to these organizations.

Getting folks together to speak out is fine. But if there is no cost, then what’s the point? Right now our police in Minnesota are, I guess, looking for a cosplay cop assassin. Considering they actually got into a shootout with them, he shouldn’t be that hard to find, right?

I mean, if it was a minority kid with a water pistol, he wouldn’t have gotten more than a block before they shot him dead.

CISA Puts Election Staff on Administrative Leave

If I did a daily dump on the abuses of the administration I still wouldn’t be able to keep up.

In any case, here’s a story from a few months back on the job cuts at Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the elections security group. You know, the folks formerly tasked to make sure foreign governments don’t influence our elections.

You know, in case you wonder why we can’t root out the fascists.
