Georgia GOPer Pushes Bill For Taxes To Be Paid In Gold And Silver | TPMDC
It’s called fiat currency. You know, the bills in your wallet right now. Ever since Nixon took us off the gold standard, you and I accept the value of the dollar because we believe the US government will honor the value of the paper.
Let me say it again. Our currency works because both you and I believe our government is both stable and legitimate enough to honor the value printed on our money.
You AND I. All of us. Americans and foreigners alike.
That is how it works.
Unless you are a Republican.
Some jackhole legislator in Georgia is pushing for that state’s business to ONLY function using gold and silver.
Like not believing the President is American, or not believing gays are citizens, or in celebrating the Confederacy and slavery, this is akin to treason. Look, vote how you want to, be racist in your own home if you want to. Believe Sarah Palin is something more than an illiterate who quit her job when it got difficult. I don’t care.
But some things are real. One of them is accepting your role in keeping our country solvent. You’d think these clowns, who keep harping on how capitalism has more weight than your rights, would understand that this is how the economy works. Instead they just want to make Glenn Beck rich, even to the point of tinkering with treason.
Sparkling Ways To Celebrate The Holidays : NPR
More things to do with champagne and sparkling wine.
We tried mixing it with a stout this year and that worked well. These seem fancier.
Top 10 Things Science Fiction Promised Us That Didn’t Happen in 2010 | GeekDad | Wired.com
As everyone else always says: where the hell IS my jetpack?
That and other things we don’t have yet on this list.
A Vintage Cocktail That Packs A Punch : NPR
Either it is just that time of year or the unemployment is getting to me. In any case, a story about punch that I found enjoyable.
Beyond Oil in 20 years – Sierra Magazine – Sierra Club
How we can actually get off oil in most of our lifetimes.
No, really!
The Hunt Is On: Massive Collider Churning Out Data : NPR
Science!
The world hasn’t ended. We haven’t breached space/time. All the naysayers and religious freakazoids are wrong. Just like they are about AIDS being a punishment against gays. Or climate change being wrong. Or about how it’s God’s will for them to bomb brown people. Just plain wrong.
Here is what the folks at the Large Hadron Collider have actually been up to.
A Catalonian Christmas tradition | PRI’s The World
I enjoyed this story so much I wanted to archive it here in case I wanted to find it again.
What a tradition!
Fabulous New Year’s Eve Appetizers from Fab Chef – The Early Show – CBS News
We mostly had simple snacks this year but did manage to have the stout and sparking wine idea. Gonna at least try the meatballs and maybe a couple more of these recipes. It was nice to see ol’ Harry do one more morning show segment before they kicked him to the curb to be replaced by annoyingly perky morons.
Conservative Media Bias Exposed
Some quick and dirty research shows how the “liberal media” myth is a lie.
You know, like most things the conservative PR machine comes up with.
