What Trump’s Proposed Budget Cuts Mean for Education, Research

The dumbing down of America continues.

After having the Amway lady head the Department of Ed in his first go-around, Trump doubled-down and put a wrasslin’ lady in charge this time. Results are as expected.

Now his new budget plans to take an axe to, among other things, STEM education. Same goes for the arts, TRIO, the entire Education department eventually.

If you can’t reason or create, you are stuck listening to South African tech bros who inject their soulless husks with young people’s blood.

I wish I was kidding about that last part. I am most certainly not.

In short, they can’t change all our minds, but they bet they can destroy the minds of our children, which – over time – they most certainly can achieve.

Mississippi Students No Longer Required to Pass U.S. History Assessment to Graduate

In a move that should surprise nobody, you do not have to know our nation’s history to get out of high school in Mississippi.

Yes, there is a place for jokes here, but the important thing to consider here is that, unlike Oklahoma outright lying about our history, or Louisiana mandating a Ten Commandments statue in the middle of a walkway, Mississippi just gave up and pocketed the money they’d have to spend.

Which, if not admirable, is as least fiscally conscious I guess?

Snap Judgement: The Black Wind

Heard this story driving home from the Cities awhile back and it stuck with me. What a wild school trip.

Worst I ever did was walk into the path of a presidential motorcade and get followed by a Blazer for a few hours after we accidentally fooled Secret Service (a habit I continued for a few decades unfortunately), but I didn’t *know* Reagan was in Chicago that day.

Trump’s ‘God Bless the U.S.A’ Bible Was Made in China

It is always a grift. Trump’s bible – and, boy, are historians gonna have fun with *that* – is made in China. You know, the country we are supposedly in a trade war with thanks to Trump. The existential threat to our economy. Yeah, those guys.

Never mind the whole notion of a sin-ridden politician selling bibles for personal gain….

Speaking of things that should not be, the Secretary of Ed in Oklahoma has mandated bible training in public schools. Guess which “good book” is the only one approved? Yeah, the Chinese-made “Trump bible“.

It. Is. Always. A. Grift.

School Vouchers Were Supposed to Save Taxpayer Money. Instead They Blew a Massive Hole in Arizona’s Budget.

I mean, I am not an education specialist or a journalist, but this headline – and assumption – are just ridiculous.

Pro-tip for modern American journalism. If a Republican says something is about saving money or freedom? It is about NEITHER.

At least for you. Vouchers are for sending public money to private institutions that can’t make it on their own. It is about tax breaks for folks who don’t need them. It is about denying children a proper education on the public end, and to shield children from properly learning about the real world on the private end.

It is about taking from the poor and kicking them while they are down some more for cheap jollies. That’s it.

If I were an employer, I’d hesitate to hire someone who hid from the world in homeschooling, or private/parochial schools without at least asking why it was done. You are getting an incomplete person, even with the finest instructors. Public schools *should* be better, I agree, but life lessons are learned from being challenged, not running away and saying, “screw you and your’s, I’ve got mine (on your dime)”.
