Latinos and their love of BBQ

There is much truth to this. One of my most fond memories of the last time I saw my uncle was the night before we caught our bus out of Monterrey.

We stayed up until three in the morning, drinking beer and cooking various chickens over his tiny grill, talking with the neighbors, warming up tortillas and picking meat off of the bird and snacking.

I did not know it was the last I would ever see of him but I couldn’t have planned it any better.

School Lunch Now Less Sucky

Here’s an idea: let’s quit feeding our kids crappy, unhealthy food. I love the idea of exposing kids to a variety of food that is actually good for them.

And yes, when parents stop thinking McDonald’s is a food group, maybe they’ll learn to eat stuff that actually looks like food and isn’t bland.

The world has a variety of people, cultures, religions, music, arts, languages, and, yes, food. Live a little, learn something, expand your palette and maybe even your life span.

Milk dud: Schools rule out chocolate

Personally, I agree with this concept. Yes, I let Gabriel drink chocolate milk, but he does it according to whether or not his mom and I let him.

If he got to choose, he would drink it all the time. So a little policing of his diet is not only a good thing, but also something I would expect of any school system I would send him to.

What really pissed me off though was the idiot parent at the end of the segment who apparently does ZERO positive food modeling with her kid. News flash: kids watch what YOU eat and follow accordingly. Which is why I’m so glad Gabriel chows on veggies and eats a pretty balanced diet all on his own.
