To anyone that knows me, it is no surprise that I like rum. Some of my best work trips have involved going to the Caribbean and sampling the local variations.
So, in honor of days gone by, here are some rum cocktail recipes.

This is it?
The supposed recipe for Coca-Cola may have been revealed by This American Life.
According to their post on the subject, it may not be the commercial formula but either an earlier or later version thereof.
Either way, worth a try at some point.
A timely and necessary diatribe against the crap sold as Mexican food and why the real thing should be honored and served in more places.
The latest batch of Republican “leaders” are going full out to take rights away from women, minorities, state employees, even Elmo.
Here’s a look at just the latest headlines. Republicans are on record in the past week for hating:
Women. Republicans are out to make abortions illegal again. That’s no surprise. What *is* a bit more insidious is that they are moving to pass bills that kill funding for preventative testing and screening for women. You know, because paying for a breast cancer check is anti-American or something.
Teachers. Wisconsin’s new governor, Scott Walker, is ready to call out the National Guard to force teachers back into the classroom as he prepares to take away their collective bargaining rights. He’s also the fink who has killed a high speed rail system between Madison and Milwaukee that voters has already approved. So much for the will of the people too.
Elmo. Also, Muppets in general. And Miss Rosa.

I don’t know why either except that John Boehner is the right color to actually BE a Muppet so it is probably self-loathing. Seriously though, Republicans have hated public broadcasting for many, many years. I get it too. They say public broadcasting like NPR and PBS are liberal. I can see where they would get that. Sesame Street is full of people of all colors, creeds, and, well, species living together in harmony. Shows like NOVA show that science is a GOOD thing and that we should be responsible with what we know. Charlie Rose doesn’t browbeat his guests or call them Nazis.
This type of propaganda might show that reasonable people have the right to disagree and yet respect each other as long as they base their arguments on facts and sound thinking. This is COMPLETELY anathema to the conservative mantra.
Plus, they hate having a black President and First Lady:

Okay, I’m just going to let it go at that for now. I feel dirty just for passing on this much.
Early 19th century beer and champagne found off the coast of Finland. Apparently the beer might be brewed once they figure out what the recipe might have been.
I’ll try it for damn sure.
I heard this great story about Indian chai yesterday.
Why is it that I can learn and hear more interesting things listening to 45 minutes of the BBC than I can from any equal or greater amount of time listening to American media?
Want to know how to make chai? Here is one take on it.
