The magic and horror and humor of Catch-22 is 50 years old today. Read it if you haven’t already. And read it again if you have.

‘MetaMaus’: The Story Behind Spiegelman’s Classic : NPR
The Maus books were the first ones to show me what you really could do with cartoons to tell a gripping story. Now there is a new book that tells the making of the classic.
Color me interested.
‘Bippolo Seed’ Uncovers Lost Stories Of Dr. Seuss : NPR
How do you go wrong with Dr. Seuss? I am looking forward to picking up this “new” book with stories most of us have never read.
This comes to mind as I have been having some unfriending issues online. Seems a lot of conservatives think it is cute to misquote Ted Geisel and other liberals, twisting their words or poetic forms to advocate mean spirited things, up to and including “jokes” about murdering certain black presidents of the United States.
Dr. Seuss had a lot of good lessons for our kids. NONE of them involved segregating others and advocating violence as good things to promote. Assassination as humor was never a thing or skeeches, loraxes, Whos, and just plain people.
It is odious to be that kind of person. And I am more than glad to separate myself from that ilk.
Eric Carle: The ‘Blue Horse’ That Inspired A Children’s Book : NPR

Comic book scene creating community of creators, fans – Entertainment / Neon – ReviewJournal.com

That there is Ralph. He owns the comic book shop near our old place in Vegas. The place he moved to (the week before we moved) is bigger and better and, frankly, I may never, ever see it except in pics.
But I wish him the best of luck there and pass along this article about the comic shops in Vegas.

Batman Submits to Sharia, Gotham Freaks Out
Conservatives are pissed off that, in the comic series, Batman has outsourced in for the Paris operation picked a young Muslim kid.
That’s right. One of the oppressed groups in France are Muslims. So instead of enjoying a story where they are empowered to not break the law, our right wing idiots can’t stand the idea of a Muslim trying to bring criminals to justice.
Because, you know, to them everyone brown is a criminal.
