It has been a month since I heard about his retirement but I wanted to make note of how great it has been to learn about this state from his reporting. Damn shame but great he is able to move on.

‘Grave concern’ at Minnesota border as more Canadians stay home
This has been an abundant week of chickens coming home to roost stories.
First, this one about Minnesota border towns trying to take the hit from losing up to the 30% percent of their former Canadian traffic because they helped elect a racist megalomaniac. Granted, since they are protected by the rest of us, their electoral college votes didn’t do it, but you know damn good and well who they pulled the lever for.
In Alabama they are facing a combination of bad growing conditions and tariff/immigration trouble. I see videos of farmers in Alabama and Nebraska literally crying in public meetings hoping someone will help them from THE VERY CONDITIONS THEY VOTED TO CREATE! Foreign contracts are cancelled, tariffs are killing their supply of fertilizers and parts. Nah, suck it up. You wanted others to hurt, now share in it.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan steps out on her own in Senate race
Can’t wait to vote for Flanagan. She’s good people. That said, I wish Tina Smith was staying to fight and that Klobuchar was taking her “let’s play ball with Rafi Cruz” show away from the Senate.
Minnesota town ball traditions built on family ties, love of the game
With Gabriel’s drum tour this summer, I haven’t had a chance – or spare coin – to go catch a local game, be it town ball or the minors or barely any games on the tube even. Shame on me.
But don’t let that stop you.
Unique northern Minnesota border airport closing after 70 years
For a limited time (as conditions deteriorate), if you need an emergency landing strip that rolls you straight into Canada, here’s your spot.
It is somewhat west of the Northwest Angle.

Southside Battletrain exemplifies May Day joy, south Minneapolis and the absurd

I love these guys. They seem to have a lot of fun crafting their machines. We used to catch them at the Maker Faires they used to hold at the state fairgrounds.
Nice to see them still doing the work.
It’s happening here: when book bans hit home
Never…EVER…side with the book burners and banners and censors. They do not have your best interests at heart and are using group ignorance to lie, steal, and eventually kill you. And there are here in Minnesota as well.
By the Numbers: Allianz Field Giant Loon

We usually roll up on this big ol’ loon at night and in traffic so haven’t been able to get too many good shots of it. And only recently did it have lighting. That said, it is pretty cool and hopefully no one misses the McDonalds it replaced that much. I don’t.
A Brief History of Computer Science in Minnesota
I knew some of this, but not as much as I should have I think.
Why some Minnesota law enforcement agencies will not follow Trump’s mass deportation plan
Now, I’m not saying I trust law enforcement – I mean, they are the ones who backed the felons who killed George Floyd and hundreds of others while wearing a badge – but their public leaders are promising to stand against the racists in power.
We’ll see, of course, but at least they are saying the right things. Today at least.
