This, unfortunately, says a lot about this nation. We almost had a cadre of female astronauts to lead our nation into the Final Frontier. The only thing holding them back? The United States Air Force. Yeah, the same Air Force that is full of Talibangelical End Times idiots that are trying to turn our nation into a theocracy. The same Air Force that should have their academy in Colorado Springs disbanded and burned to the ground for their backward beliefs and religious thuggery.
These are the sexist pricks that kept women grounded when we could have used them to advance science, adventure and democratic ideals back in the 1950s and early 1960s.
I’ve always been alternately amused, frightened, and intrigued over Wired‘s explanation of what are inside our common day products. In this case, coffee.
Other recent examples have been on what makes up a Slim Jim. Or matches. How about WD-40 or Downy or even baby formula.

We’ve got infrastructure problems across the board and while it is nice that we are looking into new roads and schools, what about our dams?
I mean, I love going over to Hoover Dam every so often, but really, it was built in the 1930s folks. And much of our nation’s big projects aren’t that much newer.

I’m spoiled. I know it. We basically have a T1 at home that only gets shared with a couple offices. So life is good.
However, traveling around the country for the past few years, I’ve seem how painfully slow internet access is in some places. And out in the Caribbean? Forget it.
So I found this story about a pigeon with a flash drive traveling faster than a “broadband” packet hilarious. And kind of sad too.
Information is the only way a lot of places are going to have to make a better life. And this planet is woefully unprepared to deliver.
Considering that conservatives are apparently into assassinating census workers now, this might be in poor taste, but here’s a list of the most insane conspiracy theories the GOP has about the Census Department.
