The Maddow Blog – Wisconsin gov made his own problem

It turns out that Wisconsin’s “budget shortfall” it the direct result of Governor Walker and his allies pushing through tax cuts that CREATED the problem he’s supposedly trying to “fix”. Some more detail here.

As for taking rights away from public workers, there is no explanation how that saves money in the immediate future. With no rights, teachers and sanitation workers won’t be able to bargain for a fair wage and benefits in the future, but that’s not what the Governor purports to be doing.

No, Scott Walker is beholden to the evil bastiches who paid for his campaign, among them the Koch Brothers from Texas, who are working hard to destroy unions in our nation.

Jimmy Hoffa aside, unions have done a lot in this nation. You have weekends, usually 8 hour shifts, no kids in coal mines, and so on because of unions. Carnegie might have build a lot of libraries but he didn’t give a rat’s ass about the common man. And it wasn’t his job to. No company is paid to worry about what workers need. That’s kind of the point of capitalism and to believe otherwise is to be an idiot.

And so while carpet-bagging Tea Baggers are going to Wisconsin to “support Walker” even though THEIR jobs aren’t on the line, it’s mostly a sham to screw Americans out of even more rights.

And this isn’t just a Wisconsin or tea bagger thing. It is part of a national plan of attack on working men and women. And that’s as simple as it gets to explaining the situation there and across this land.

The Maddow Blog – Wyoming sends abortion bill to farm committee. ‘Men think we’re livestock?’

In order to expedite taking rights away from women, Wyoming Republicans have gone all out to take the very concept of humanity away from women moving an anti-abortion bill to the state Agriculture committee.

If you pay attention to what Republicans are really saying, you’ll understand their stance on things. Women are no better than cattle is the message in this case.

Defector admits to WMD lies that triggered Iraq war | The Guardian

Here’s a variation on the bumper sticker: Iraqi lies to Bush, people die.

Turns out we based the whole “Iraq has WMDs” argument on one guy. Who apparently lied about the WMD program under Saddam’s rule that caused us to invade the country.

Personally, I had always believed they made the whole damn thing up because they were gonna invade anyways but got sidetracked by 9/11. It turns out there actually was a guy, and he was a liar. You know, just like Powell, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, Yoo, Rice, and the rest of the Apocalyptic Scooby gang.

Ya know, if you are gonna take the word of one guy before taking this nation to war, couldn’t you at least pretend to investigate his claims?

I mean, I’ve got no use for Reagan, but if these folks are gonna treat him like Right Wing God, couldn’t they AT LEAST adhere to the “Trust but VERIFY” commandment?

BBC News – Free diabetes and blood pressure drugs for Brazilians

Perspective and values.

The United States gives billions to oil companies in tax abatements and just reaffirmed our selling out status to billionaires by giving them more tax breaks.

Brazil just gave it’s citizens free diabetes and blood pressure meds, hoping to reduce the 34% of deaths in their nation from these illnesses.

“Land of the free”, huh?

Background checks are latest gun rights battleground | Minnesota Public Radio News

To date, the Republican takeover of the legislature here in Minnesota has resulted in two trends.

One, they want to enforce ID checks before people can cast a ballot. This, of course, ties in with a long-standing conservative tradition of making it harder for students, the poor, elderly, and minorities – especially recent immigrants – to vote. In short, it is anti-democratic. Which is fine, because Republicans do not believe America is a democracy. Seriously, just ask them.

The other trend since the election has been to take away any regulations that might save lives. The latest move is to do away with background checks prior to purchasing a firearm.

Voting? ID checks similar to an East German border crossing are the model for the GOP.

Buying a shopping cart full of guns? No ID required.

Priorities. Pay attention to what the politicians are telling you.

Census estimates show big gains for U.S. minorities – USATODAY.com

Minorities are making big numeric gains across the US. This might explain why even progressive states like Minnesota have suddenly turned into racist, gun-toting people scared of their own shadows.

Look, the US is going to be less white no matter what happens. If Caucasians don’t want to sow any more ill will against populations who already have legitimate grudges, this might be the time to be less vindictive and violent; not more.
