Why are the Pakistanis still supposedly our allies when we are banned from helping out in refugee camps, but the fundamentalist anti-American allies to the Taliban are given free reign within the camps?

Honestly, and not to be too big a jerk about this, but we should stop funding relief aid if the folks who will dole it out will just teach people to hate us with a belly full of American food.

Today’s Fresh Air covered the topics of a secret Talibangelical political group called “The Family”, as well as a somewhat Pollyanna-ish view of the GOP’s prospects.

“A graph printed in the NY times arranges the states according to their divorce rate, teenage birthrate, and (perhaps most telling of all) their subscriptions to online porn sites. So, which states would you think would lead in these “sin” statistics? Red States, the home of family values, moral rectitude, and social conservatives? Or Blue States, the home of moral turpitude and liberal attitudes toward abortion and gay marriage?”

Consider this required reading on how bad off the US would have been – and still could be – if the Talibangelicals ever get in charge again.

For some, like me, the Age of Obama is a little underwhelming of late. Gitmo is still in operation, Cheney isn’t in prison, racists can run amok speaking hate on TV and gays are second class citizens. The world still hates us and we’re still spying on our own people.

That said, things are changing, and here’s a big one that comes from our pals Down Under. Thanks to stem cells – yeah, “evil” stem cells – scientists there have restored sight to the blind.

Yeah, stem cells can help cure blindness.

So let the Talibangelicals go full Luddite and move into the national parks armed to the teeth. Let their ilk get sterile and die off. They aren’t part of our genetic future. We can clone them and send the clones in to kill their Primes for all I care.

Thanks to our president, we can now jump back into the stem cell gene pool and see what else we can cure. Cancer? Diabetes? Alzheimers? Republicanism?

Olbermann closed his show with a commentary to “quarantine” FOX News.

That I have a commercial conflict of interest here is obvious, so I’ll make the first symbolic contribution to this quarantine. One of my pleasures, obviously, is constantly criticizing him in that Ted Baxter voice. It is the idea of laughter as a social sanction against inflexible behavior. But this is no time for laughter. This is serious. Serious as death. Serious as George Tiller’s death. So as of this show’s end I will retire the name, the photograph and the caricature. The words may still be quoted in the future as developments dictate, but the goal here is to get this blindly irresponsible man and his ilk off the air. We are only in the television news business, a profession that is at times about two inches up from carnival barking. We must again separate it, television, from terrorism! And we must again make the world safe for people condemned by the Fox News Channel.

I have a couple problems here. One is obvious. How can you be “pro-life” while resorting to assassination as an argument tactic? And yes, some folks are justifiably calling it fundamentalist terrorism. So, really, how do you reconcile the belief system to the behavior?

More important to me, even in my current “spiritual without particular religion” phase, is the concept of holy ground. Sanctuary. Gangs respect it (for the most part). The Families swear by it. Even the KGB respected the tradition. Why don’t Talibangelicals? Last year, that one asshat shot up a church in Tennessee to kill some token Democrats. Now, a doctor gets shot in church.

Not *near* the church. Not pacing outside the church deciding whether or not he could enter. He was *in* church. As an usher in said church. An active participant in the worship of God.

But these so-called “compassionate conservatives” think it is okay to enter a church with a gun and assassinate someone. And why not? They want you to have guns in national parks. They want you to pack heat in school. Why WOULDN’T they agree to execution by the pipe organ?

These twits do not respect any opinions that aren’t on par with their own narrow minded view. Zealots. Racists. Bigots. Assassins. Terrorists.

So yeah, I’ll be more on the lookout for places that air FauxNews and to avoid giving them any business. If you want to air hate, you don’t need my money. Probably racists anyway.

Apparently, girls who get pregnant and go to religious schools are more likely to get an abortion than their public school peers. So says the results of a study on the matter.

Gee, girls are forced into abortions because of the shame they are bludgeoned with by their narrow-minded zealot adult parents and teachers? I can’t imagine!

This is the danger of theocracy and hatred folks. I feel bad for the girls who think they have no real choices or even a voice in the argument.

The Talibangelicals hate everyone, even Miley Cyrus.

Not that I have much use for her, but I find it pathetic that she is being singled out by “outraged” zealots because she believes every person deserves a chance at happiness.

Once again, find me the place in the Bible where it is okay for so-called Christians to demand that some citizens are lesser than the rest of us. A generation ago these asshats refused that people of different races could marry. Hell, 20 years ago, the Mormon faction of these hatemongers thought African-Americans were darkly pigmented because of the sin they carried. No, really.

A hundred and fifty years ago, some of these folks would have been sitting on their plantation porches watching their slaves work and shooting any Catholics, Jews or basically “anyone else” who stepped on their land.

So, you know, pardon me if I call them out for being cruel bigots for picking on a teenage kid who is more enlightened than they are. Hell, I’m even partial to giving Billy Ray some credit for raising an open-minded child.

In Findlay, OH a guy is getting banned from his high school graduation for going to the prom.

It isn’t *his* prom, but his girlfriend’s. She goes to public school; he’s been attending an apparently reactionary nitwit parochial school run by jackasses who loath music and dancing.

Seeing as he’s been going since kindergarten, this seems a tad bit extreme. Then again, that might be the point. If you consort with extremists, don’t be surprised when they freak out and punish you for doing something normal and rational.

You might not get to wear your cap and gown because of this, but hopefully a life lesson about zealots will be more useful as you go through life.
