On the heels of one story about how the local county is becoming more left-of-center, here is one on how the whole state has set itself as an enclave for those merely trying to be their best selves.
Yeah, that’s it. No agenda, not trying to piss anyone off. Just trying to rugged individual in ways narrow minded folks do not understand, but should agree is their right to do so. But intellectual comprehension is not anything I have expected from conservatives for a very, very long time.
Even for one city in Oklahoma, white nationalist terrorists might not be welcome at city hall. I mean, that *should* be a bare minimum, but good to see anyway.
A lot of places in America have lost their local news. Indeed, due to conservative talk radio and increasingly violent “news” stations, they do not have a firm grasp on reality, much less their community.
Marketplace covered this problem, highlighting a few locations where news is still local, and locally controlled. A drop in the bucket, but at least some folks are still trying.
Someone thought it would be great to send young black women from Utah to one of the most racist parts of the US, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They were followed and harassed by the locals.
Why? Because they were encouraged to. By their community, by their governor, by the tin god they want back as president.
Because they have been told they are right to do so by dozens of voices on their radio and TV screens.
But it isn’t just them. Sure, that part of the country is full of skinheads and retired LAPD goons. They are certainly an outlier. But they aren’t alone. It would really be nice if we finally started trying to fix that particular problem.
Surprise, surprise! The Oscars couldn’t see fit to give any awards to Indigenous and Latino voices.
I mean, I stopped watching it years ago but they keep giving reasons not to return.
Oh, look, Muslims for Trump.
Yeah, I know, they aren’t *for* Trump, but they are willing to violate their own personal safety to rage quit the Democratic party.
Smart.
Part of uncovering and addressing the sins of the past is to learn never to do it again. Which is what folks who don’t want to look at the darkness refuse to get.
