F'in Uggla

I was so busy yesterday I just figured I'd miss catching the All-Star game. And I did, only caught it from the 8th inning on.

Actually, I damn near saw a whole game anyway given it went 15 innings (recap here and box score).

Some highlights. The Cubs pitchers represented, as did the Rockie's Aaron Cook, turning in a couple of impressive innings on the mound.

Kosuke Fukudome enjoyed his moment as an All-Star. And Nate McLouth REALLY impressed in the field. As did Edinson Volquez who pitched well despite giving up a crucial home run in the 7th.

But the night, and the Goat of the NL title deservingly goes to the Marlin's Dan Uggla. He kicked balls, couldn't clutch hit, made THREE frigging errors. There can't be enough said about how monumentally bad he fielded - or, more accurately, DIDN'T field - his position.

But he says he has no regrets. Which is almost a nice of way of saying "oops" but far short of saying "Sorry for screwing up the home field advantage for our side folks".

Then again, let's not blame Uggla for it all. Apparently Ichiro gives an annual profanity-laced pep talk that fires up the AL.

Who the hell knows? I just know that if the Cubs do make it to the Fall Classic, they've got one more hurdle than they did yesterday.
