A truly heartwarming story about a family facing military deployments and real life challenges.
Good luck to them.

Some ideas on not only where, but how to get to, some geeky destinations.
GeekDad covered something similar recently with a much more local-friendly site called NerdyDayTrips. You can read the review here. I already have a few ideas on things to do around here.
A neat story about an Alpha family who has connections with the President.
A couple leftovers from the big government shutdown here.
We went up to Duluth for the Fourth to get away from the heat. Damn gorgeous weather there and we had a good time.
Driving up the North Shore we saw a lot of cars parked on the highway with folks going into the closed parks, in some cases in front of state patrol cars.
Well, you know me.
Along with many, many others, we went to Gooseberry Falls State Park and enjoyed a good hour hiking to the falls and playing in the water. Mono came along too, which was a really nice extra perk for us.
I’d do it again in a heartbeat. No Tea Bagging asshat is going to ruin my family’s vacation!
How Republicans here deal with competing views on balancing the budget: they set fire to the governor’s old house.
Yes, he doesn’t even live there anymore. Not only is it not constructive, it targets the wrong people. Classic GOP reactionary violence.
Further reporting shows that three fires were set, presumably by the same asshat(s). Nice.
If they ever post the video to this story, I’ll add it to this post. It’s the story of the Sydney Opera House. Not only cool to look at but we were fortunate to watch a performance there what seems like ages ago.
Ever wanted to get away from it all, throw up a border and keep the riff-raff out? Yeah, me too. Here are some folks who have actually done it.
A nice overview of McIlhenny Co, the folks who bring us Tabasco sauce.
I knew most of this story from a tour I took there during a server build in Louisiana a few years back but nice to see their operation getting some well-deserved press.

That there is Ralph. He owns the comic book shop near our old place in Vegas. The place he moved to (the week before we moved) is bigger and better and, frankly, I may never, ever see it except in pics.
But I wish him the best of luck there and pass along this article about the comic shops in Vegas.
Some kinky fun, Japanese style. We went by hundreds of these while in Japan.
