Neil Gaiman’s Journal: My New Year Wish
Great sentiments from a great man.
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.”
Christopher Hitchens: His greatest Slate hits.
“I burned the candle at both ends and it often gave a lovely light.”
Christopher Hitchens passed away the other day. Here is a quick compilation of some of his best work in Slate.
A collection of some of his more pointed observations.
A strangely timely re-emergence of a story of his on North Korea.
And notes on how to make a perfect cup of tea.
MAKE | Meet the Makers, MAKE Volume 28: William Gurstelle

Still, he’s a fan of work, and a promoter of hard, honest work. Hard to argue with that.
Las Vegas Weekly : – That’s all folks! A look back at Oscar Goodman
Pretty much everything I know about Las Vegas, I know with Oscar Goodman as mayor. Now he’s out of office.

Wallace Shawn: Why I Call Myself a Socialist: Is the World Really a Stage?
It is probably more my fault than anything that I was surprised at the depth of thinking in this selection from actor Wallace Shawn’s Essays.
Look like I’ll be adding that to my reading list soon.
Sargent Shriver, Peace Corps founder, dies
CBS report on his passing.

I may have linked this profile of Roger Ebert already. If I have, so what. Watch it again anyway.
Also, if you use Twitter, you really need to be following him @ebertchicago.
