I’ve always liked Tom Brokaw. He seems a stand-up guy and it is nice to read that he’s still quite busy. I’ve seen some of his work since his “retirement” but it looks like he’s got his fingers in a whole lot more pies than I knew about.
Protecting Companies That Mix Profitability, Values : NPR
Capitalism eats companies who try to do good works. That’s the crux of this article I heard on the way in.
You could almost hear Steve Inskeep spitting bile as he had to segue away from this story to something else entirely. Asshat.
In short, our economic system punishes successful companies who try to give back to their communities. Basically, the more successful you are the more likely you’ll have to sell out, one way or another.
Female WWII Pilots: The Original Fly Girls : NPR

Here’s another damn good story representative of what I’d like to see NPR doing. It’s the story of the WWII-era WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) who served our nation and are just now getting the recognition they deserve.

Justifiable Terrorism?
Look who’s palling around with terrorists? I continue to insist that modern day Republicans, particularly their Talibangelical Hate Wing, has more in common with al-Qaeda than with the rest of America.

Now, I really wouldn’t wish this on Costa Rica, but please pass the bill and get that fat, drug-addicted, boy fracking bastard off our airwaves and out of our country.
Think Progress » After Telling Women, Gays How To Live, Oklahoma GOP Outraged At ‘Government Intervention’ In Divorces
Republicans, particularly the Okie variety, really, really do not like to be told they have to think about what they are doing, but are real keen on telling other people how to live. Especially when it involves taking away someone else’s rights. Here’s more proof of that.

“We came to America for the American dream — to do good and to make good.”
– K.R. Sridhar
We still have some ingenuity running around this country. And some of that we have thanks to immigrants. Here are two of the latter working hard to fix our energy problems.
Maybe if we listen to those who want to be Americans instead of damning them, we can make our nation great again.
Aroldis Chapman hits 100 mph, strikes out three in Reds debut – Big League Stew – MLB Blog – Yahoo! Sports

Cuban pitching sensation Aroldis Chapman finally pitched a couple innings for the Reds and the results look pretty good.
Now hopefully he’ll be given the time to develop his talent and gain some strength before Dusty Baker kills his arm.
Eugene Robinson – ‘Al-Qaeda 7’ smear campaign is an assault on American values – washingtonpost.com
The Cheney crime family cannot be taken seriously whenever they talk about values or defending America. Most of us have known this for years, but conservatives are slowly coming to the same revelation. Here’s the latest damning evidence.
