Jeremy Scahill: US Soldiers in Afghanistan Told to “Hunt People for Jesus… So We Get Them into the Kingdom” (Video)

Some members of our military are still under the impression that we are refighting the Crusades while we are supposed to be routing Taliban and killing al-Qaeda.

I mean, I know the Air Force Academy is infested with Talibangelicals, but could we at least keep the groundpounding zealots from getting our Soldiers and Marines killed in a frigging holy war?

Jesse Ventura: “The Body” Politic

The Body is making a lot of sense recently.

From here you can watch some clips of him weighing in on the Minnesota Senate race, plus his disdain of Dick Cheney and that prick’s love of torture.

He repeats his charge today on The View. Which is funny because Survivor Girl really should stop trying to be the Voice of Conservatism when pitted against folks who have more than two brain cells to rub together. Today, as always, she is made the insipid fool.

StarWars.com | Checklist: Five Westerns Every Star Wars Fan Should See

I thought this was an interesting and relevant link, seeing as I’ve been doodling in a list of stuff to show Gabriel as he grows up.

As most folks know, certain themes permeate all sci-fi, westerns, fantasy movies and so on. The folks at the Star Wars site are just being honest about some of the Westerns that are inspirations for the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

SF Country Music Examiner: Miley Cyrus targeted over gay marriage

The Talibangelicals hate everyone, even Miley Cyrus.

Not that I have much use for her, but I find it pathetic that she is being singled out by “outraged” zealots because she believes every person deserves a chance at happiness.

Once again, find me the place in the Bible where it is okay for so-called Christians to demand that some citizens are lesser than the rest of us. A generation ago these asshats refused that people of different races could marry. Hell, 20 years ago, the Mormon faction of these hatemongers thought African-Americans were darkly pigmented because of the sin they carried. No, really.

A hundred and fifty years ago, some of these folks would have been sitting on their plantation porches watching their slaves work and shooting any Catholics, Jews or basically “anyone else” who stepped on their land.

So, you know, pardon me if I call them out for being cruel bigots for picking on a teenage kid who is more enlightened than they are. Hell, I’m even partial to giving Billy Ray some credit for raising an open-minded child.

The “Gay Tax”

Michael Steele, figurehead for a failed racist party, thinks that gay marriage would be bad for small businesses because of all the damned benefits that newly legal partners would be deserving.

What the idiot refuses to get, according to said article is that his argument not only is BS, it is also a good argument for a) not hiring married people or those with children, and b) socialized medicine.

So now the GOP is Anti-Family Employment? Only single people will have jobs in the Talibangelical Hegemony?

Say it with me: the Republican Party hates YOUR marriage and YOUR children!

That said, I read another article recently that states how good instituting gay marriage would be for gay families. And not just the “you are no longer second class citizens” benefits. I hadn’t thought about this, but consider the following. Gay couples have to file taxes as single people. They also can’t claim each other as dependents so have to pay double insurance. It’s called the “gay tax”.

And contrary to Steele’s point, a death in a gay couple saves people money. No social security benefits and I am sure beneficiary payments are fought tooth and nail by the insurance industry.

Saving money by being anti-democracy bigots. Sounds just like some kind of GOP rallying cry.

I still stand by the concept that gay couples shouldn’t have to pay taxes. If we are going to deny them freedoms, they should be exempt from paying to be treated so. It sure looks like they are paying more than their fair share, and that in itself should be a crime some bigots should have to do time for.

This week in Rethug lies, distortions, and crass behavior

Just a quick rundown on some crap that should be pointed out more and isn’t.

Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee can’t handle the truth when it is laid out by the President of Pakistan. You know, our ally.

State Senator Kim Hendren of Arkansas decided it would be cute to refer to Senator Chuck Shumer of New York as “that Jew”. Granted, that kind of talk is probably accepted in close door sessions of Republicans nationwide, but seriously….

The Washington Times thought it would be cute to run an article concerning school violence in Chicago and attach a picture of the Obama girls to it.

You know, the kids that haven’t been Chicago school students since…um…their father became President? To only message to infer here is that they’d like the girls shot dead.

Representative Tom Price is another of those Republicans who think that exploratory drilling off our coasts can make up for not buying Saudi oil or some such, says we can create 36 million jobs by doing so. One, there is no guarantee the oil is out there. Two, it will take over a decade to really pump any oil or gas we *might* find. Oh, and three, we currently employ less than 200,000 people in the oil and gas industries.

Last up, the costs of our stupidity. The Taliban has taken to waterboarding captured American soldiers. They swear it is legal and useful based on the opinion that WE said it was legal and useful.

Thanks for endangering our troops assholes!
