When we were down near Port Arthur, Tasmania, we stopped at the Tasmanian Devil Discovery Center and learned the awful news that the species is being ravaged by a facial cancer. (more here.)
Being kind of fond of the critters, I've been trying to follow the story. Lately there are reports that some devils may be sent to some Tasmanian islands as a form of species survival plan as the still-incurable cancer burns through the rest of the population. Grim, but probably not a bad idea given the lack of a cure.
There are some risks, but barring major proof of a problem, my vote is with the devils.
